Bp. Ackerman makes first return visit to Quincy
The Rt. Rev. Keith L . Ackerman will celebrate and preach at St. John's Parish on his first return since retiring as the bishop of Quincy. Services at 8:00am and 10:30am.
Palm Sunday is the traditional annual visitation date for our bishop, and we have invited him to continue the tradition. We begin the Procession of the Palms in the parish hall and the procession is led around the block to the main entrance to the church by a member of the brass choir on trumpet. The brass choir accompanies the organ for service music in the oldest church building in the city, recently restored and renovated to the greater glory of God and recognized by all who visit as the most beautiful church in the region.
St. John's is an Anglo-catholic parish devoted to serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in worship, word and deed. We celebrate the mass daily, with special devotions for seasonal observances such as Lent, Holy Week and high holy days. We proclaim the Good News that Christ came among us to lead us to a better life and that he died for our sins to restore us to right relationship with our Father God. We are a parish seeking to know Christ and to make him known to our neighbors, our nation and the world. We reach out to our neighbors with the love of Christ through our Soup Kitchen, Jobs Program, Clothing Closet and Food Pantry to assist those less fortunate than ourselves. We stand for the truth in a lost and hurting society as our nation struggles in these troubled times. And we participate in the worldwide spiritual battle for souls by working with organizations taking the Good News of Jesus Christ into lands where the gospel has never before been heard.
We continue to grow as a parish as we reach our to the lost and invite fellow travelers to join us in our pilgrimage of faith.
The Rev. James W. Derbyshire +
Rector
